nights in hospital

A week after he was hospitalized and underwent two abdominal surgeries, Amitabh Bachchansays he is spending sleepless nights and recovering only slowly.
Unable to doze off at the SevenHills Hospital, Big B took to Twitter at 4 a.m. Saturday to connect with his "extended family".
"Have not been able to sleep yet... so I guess you all have to tolerate me for a while," the 69-year-old megastar wrote.
"The body repairs but gradually... what a piece of machinery the Almighty created...incredible!
"Yes it's become a routine now to be awake all night almost... best time to think, reminisce, write and contemplate...
"The doctors have gone home, the family is asleep in adjoining room and the night nurses and sisters are a joy to be with...," he added.
Amitabh complained that the internet connection at the hospital conked out for a while.
At night, he listened to Coke Studio.
"Such talent within and across the border ... soulful, caressing, almost taking the pain away..."
Big B earlier spoke of his slow recovery.
"There seems to be a slight, very slight, upward push to the graph on recovery, though there is still an immense amount of work to be done," he posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com Friday night.
Amitabh was admitted for abdominal surgery Feb 11. He was to be discharged Feb 13. But acute pain forced doctors to keep him under observation.
Doctors were thinking of another surgery Friday but that did not take place as he showed slight improvement.
"The fever stayed within control and a few blood readings brought a gentle smile on the faces of the medical team," he said.
"A CT Scan planned to detect another nagging problem ... shall be considered tomorrow.
"My intake has been improved upon - from three sips of water per day to four sips! Thats like a couple of teaspoons full extra," added the actor.

Fresh medical issues have come up:

Amitabh Bachchan, who is recuperating from two recent abdominal surgeries, says some new medical issues have emerged, and it is likely that his stay at the Seven Hills Hospital here may be further extended.

"I seek forgiveness...I will not be detailing any more...some fresh medical issues have come up, and I need to concentrate on the treatment now," the 69-year-old ailing actor posted on his blog Wednesday night.

The megastar was successfully operated upon Saturday, and was due to be discharged from the hospital Monday. But following complaints of acute pain, doctors decided to keep him under observation till Friday or Saturday at least.

However, his blog update, which was unusually short and to-the-point, indicates his condition could be grave. The hospital authorities, when contacted by IANS, remained tightlipped.

So far, his health hasn't deterred him from blogging and tweeting to be in touch with his "extended family".

"Once you open Twitter, you just remain there...an obsession to read and know what others feel and say...Attention to laptop and mobile has increasingly become the ultimate yardstick for communication...To all those that communicate with me here, and wanting personal response...it is inconsiderate to ask me in this condition...," he added.

Amitabh is admitted to the fifth floor of the seven-star hospital, and is being well taken care of by doctors, his wife Jaya and daughter Shweta Nanda.

His abdominal problems are a result of a near fatal injury he suffered while shooting " Coolie" in 1982.

Big B to be discharged from hospital today

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent an abdominal surgery on Saturday, is recovering fast and will be discharged from hospital today, sources said.

The 69-year-old actor, who has a history of stomach ailments, was operated upon at the Seven Hills Hospital in suburban Andheri though the authorities there remained tight-lipped about the exact nature of Bachchan's ailment.

"He is recovering and will be discharged tomorrow," a source quoting a hospital official told PTI.

On February 9, Bachchan had revealed on his blog about the pains he has had, saying he would have to undergo surgery. Bachchan had suffered a near fatal intestinal injury while filming a fight scene in 1982 movie 'Coolie'.

Last night, he thanked his fans on Twitter for their wishes and prayers.

"Back...!! Thank you for your prayers... your love and wishes never fail... indebted for life, one that I shall never be able to pay back. Took almost 5 hrs on the OT, but could feel the concern and wishes of the TwFmXt every minute... you all are incredible... thank you," he had tweeted.

"Took long because 2 surgeries had to be done on either side...," he had said.

Following the surgery, his son Abhishek had tweeted that all was well. "Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting," he said.

Amitabh Bachchan's recovery is smooth after his surgery, said son Abishek Bachchan to media persons. His superstar dad had experienced acute abdominal pain while shooting and the doctors at SevenHills Hospital had advised surgery. The surgical procedure took 2 - 3 hours and went off smoothly. After keeping him under observation in the hospital, doctors have given him a clean bill of health and said that Amitabh can be taken home. It is expected that Amitabh will be taking time off to rest and recuperate before returning to his hectic schedule.

Amitabh Bachchan sings for Kahaani
Amitabh Bachchan was cooped up in a studio past midnight on Tuesday, recording, or rather re-recording, a song. He returned home around 2.30 am and tweeted, “Just back from work, music lets you forget time! Vishal (Dadlani) and Shekhar (Ravjiani) have done a most inspiring Ekla Cholo... for the
The actor has given playback for several films but this is the first time he has sung a Rabindra Sangeet. Last December, Bachchan admitted that rendering the iconic Bengali song, written by the Nobel laureate, was a “doubly difficult” task for someone who’s not a professional singer.
“A Rabindra Sangeet has a structure that is unlike that of a normal Hindi film song,” Bachchan pointed out, adding that though he had recorded the song to Sujoy’s satisfaction, he himself wasn’t happy. “I plan to re-record it, again and again if necessary, till I get it right. Otherwise, not just by the Bengalis who consider me their ‘jamai babu’ (son-in-law), my head will be chopped off in my own house.”
Sujoy says that there was no problem with the first recording but admits this one is “awesome”. The director insists that the song is not a publicity gimmick, timed to coincide with Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations. “I hadn’t given a thought to the significance of the year. It’s just a happy coincidence,” says Sujoy, adding that the song is significant to the plot and comes at a point when the pregnant protagonist (Vidya Balan), who is searching for her missing husband on the streets of Kolkata, has run out of support. “People around her are beginning to believe that her husband has run off with another woman, but she knows he wouldn’t do something like this,” says Sujoy.
However, the worldly-wise pessimism around her is a downer and Vidya needs someone who will tell her, ‘If no one listens to your call, walk alone, don’t be afraid…’ “That message is inherent in Tagore’s Jodi Tor Daak Shune Keu Na Aashe Tobe Ekla Cholo Re… but to convey it I needed a commanding voice that you would listen to and believe in and whose better than Mr Bachchan’s,” reasons Sujoy. “It’s a bonus that he also happens to be a very good singer.”
